There are many tools that can be installed into your website to help it along. A stat counter is a good example. However, have you heard of a website heatmap? If you have not heard of it or unsure what it is, then read on.

What is it?

Simply it is a visual heatmap of your website showing you hot and cold spots. By using a heatmap you can see your hot spots and these are the places people are clicking onto. Why is it so important?

This is vital information because now you know where your visitors are going and what they want. With your results you can optimize your website based on your visitor’s usage patterns. A simple and quick way to check your stats without information overload.

How to get it?

There are free services for this, from my quick search -check out labsmedia.com or crazyegg.com. However, these use JavaScript’s that are placed at the end of your html body. Some do prefer to create their own heatmap because they claim JavaScript’s slow down their website loading time. I would recommend trying the free services first just to get an understanding of it.

When you do install your own heatmap, be sure to give it at least few days. This will give you a better understanding of your website’s activities.
