Google is a goldmine for finding what you need. In this list you will discover ways you may not have thought of. Here they are:
Google Adwords Tool – Use your keywords to find out search volume and advertiser competition.

Type in your keywords and click onto “Get More Keywords”. When you list appears, click on “Advertiser Competition” to reverse the search. In the next screen, you are looking for low competition and high volume.
Google Main Search – Use this to find out what the market is already buying and problems this market is having.

To find out what the market is buying. Study the top 10 organic search results.Finding out the market problems type in your niche and the word “forum” and “faq” to search for common problems.

Google Scholar – Find articles you can QUOTE in your report or narrow the niche focus for more ideas.

Type in your keywords in the search box. Find articles that appeal to you, that you can use.
Google Suggest – Good idea generator to narrow your focus to a tighter niche. Even finding markets you have not thought of.

Type in your niche. A pull down list will appear. In the list there are your suggestion keywords and in green are the how many are existing. Google Trends - Find out the latest trend based on graphs and news articles. You can also do comparison trends.
